INTERFERENCE & DOGTAIL SOUP Tenth Anniversary Show. A celebration of the music of Colin Vearncombe and Fergus O’Farrell. 30th January 2026. Ballydehob, West Cork.
Legendary Irish band Interference formed in the mid-1980s when Fergus O’Farrell, James O’Leary and Malcolm MacClancy met at school. Avoiding sport, they found music — and each other — becoming one of Ireland’s most influential collectives. The band toured Ireland, the UK and Europe, even performing at Radio City Music Hall with Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová.
As Fergus’s health declined, live shows became rarer but no less magical. In the late ’90s he returned to his beloved West Cork, where a kitchen-table idea led to Dogtail Soup.
A West Cork supergroup, Dog Tail Soup featured Colin Vearncombe (Black), Camilla Griehsel, Fergus O’Farrell and Paul Tiernan.
The Dog Tail Soup collective revived Interference and built a devoted following with Irish residencies and European tours.
Unbelievably, in the dark days of late winter, 2016, both Colin and Fergus were taken from us, a week apart.. Those icy cold and wet days of January and February 2016 left a community reeling with sorrow and difficulty in understanding how this had happened.
So here we are ten years later, Interference and Dogtail Soup, the legacy of both these music giants continues to resonate with old and new.
If you were lucky enough to be at the first anniversary shows you will know what to expect, indeed if you’ve been to any of the concerts and festivals over the last ten years you’ll know, Interference & Dogtail Soup will take to the stage on 30th January, at home in West Cork, in Ballydehob Community Hall for a very special night to celebrate the music and the men who left us too early but remain with us every single day.
